Founded in 1987 by Mark Downing, Granite State Mechanical Services has provided professional installation and service of heating, cooling, and plumbing products for New Hampshire’s homeowners and businesses for over 30 years. Throughout the course of 3 decades, we’ve learned a lot and still to this day continue to innovate to always make sure we are arriving at a customer’s home as the experts in HVAC and plumbing.

Now entering 35+ years of serving our New Hampshire homeowners and local businesses, Mark's two sons Zak & Jack are fully involved as the second generation. You can find Zak running the business as well as visiting customers to look at projects. Jack is our Service Manager, leading our team of technicians in repairing and maintaining the advanced systems used to heat and cool NH homes. Together they lead a bright future for GSMS.

Hands-On Since Day One
Our story didn't start in a boardroom; it started under a boiler with a flashlight. Zak didn't just 'ride along' with his father, Mark—he was out there working. From the age of five, Zak was holding the light, observing every repair, and learning the trade through pure hands-on experience.
That foundation led to years of Zak installing new systems and working closely with our manufacturers to master the latest technology. As the referrals grew, so did the team. Zak transitioned to focusing on growth for one simple reason: he never wanted to turn a neighbor away. Whenever Zak is asked about his goal, it's always the same: 'When that phone rings and it’s a referral, I want to be able to say, "Yes, we can take care of you. Welcome to the GSMS family."
Today, as we move into a new 'second-gen era,' our clients shouldn't notice a change. Zak has been part of every step of GSMS’s development, and the same values Mark instilled in him are the ones Zak instills in our team every single day." Mark, the man who started it all in 1987, is still a vital part of the GSMS team today. While he has transitioned the company to the second generation, he remains a Specialist in the field, visiting clients daily and ensuring the foundational values he built the company on are present on every call.
