March’s We Love Local: Serving with The Friendly Kitchen

For March's We Love Local, the GSMS team volunteered at The Friendly Kitchen in a truly hands-on way. Zak, Cheryl, Mark, and Gina spent the day working alongside an incredible group of people who dedicate their time to serving those in need. It was a meaningful experience from start to finish.

First, Jim, a long-time volunteer and pantry manager, warmly welcomed us and gave us a heartfelt tour of the facility. What we saw amazed us. The dining room seats and serves up to 120 people per meal, offering free, hot food to anyone in need in a safe and welcoming space. Even more impressive, The Friendly Kitchen runs entirely on donations and volunteers with no government funding. Just community love keeping the doors open.

After the tour, we got straight to work. We gloved up and tackled a deep clean of their refrigerators, which honestly was no easy feat! Still, it was a great reminder that some of the most impactful ways to give back happen behind the scenes. We also got to meet the passionate staff and volunteers whose compassion truly drives this organization every single day.
